A Married Couple Becomes Distressed About Their Excessive And Irresponsible Drinking And Asks Themselves If They Display Any Signs Of Alcohol Dependency
Lenny and Angie have been married for seven years. They wanted to have some excitement and fun before they decided to have children and so they consciously constructed an incredibly exciting social life.
The main issue, it needs to be highlighted, is that just about everything they do to have fun is related to drinking. For instance, all of the happy hours, parties with friends, sporting events, family get-togethers, and dinner engagements they go to somehow include drinking.
If they were responsible drinkers this wouldn't be a major issue. Because they drink in an excessive manner, nonetheless, they are beginning to notice some apparent alcohol-related problems in their lives.
As an illustration, just five days ago Lenny was placed under arrest for a second DUI and has been showing up late for work because of alcohol-related health problems. What is more, Lenny's last two or three performance assessments at his place of employment have been less than creditable and he has begun to fail to remember what he does or says the times that he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family has begun to exhibit anxiety about his drinking problems.
In a similar way, Angie has been feeling dejected with things in her life and to manage these feelings, she has been drinking more intensely than any time in the past six months. Moreover, Angie has been experiencing a lot of painful headaches and having very bad hangovers due to her drinking. Lastly, Angie has been feeling considerably less active in the morning, she has been getting to work late virtually every Monday, and she has been receiving some insensitive criticism from her coworkers, relatives, friends, and family members about her unhealthy and abusive drinking.
One Friday evening while watching TV, Lenny and Angie went through the channels and discovered a TV special about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about alcoholism signs in particular. This television documentary was a real surprise to Angie and Lenny because more than a few of the alcohol facts that were listed looked as if they were unshakably associated with several of the alcohol related problems Angie and Lenny had been going through.
With thoughts of the television special still running through her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been displaying could mean that they are addicted to alcohol or conceivably becoming dependent on alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he recommended that they schedule an appointment with one of the healthcare practitioners at the local drug and alcohol treatment clinic to find out more about the gravity of their drinking circumstances.
Paradoxically, although their drinking situation hadn't yet changed, it was obvious that Angie and Lenny were at the very least addressing their drinking difficulties, they were eager to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in finding out how they could appreciably cut back on or get rid of the alcohol-related issues that had started to go from bad to worse.
When Lenny and Angie went to bed that night, they arrived at a decision that the next morning, Lenny would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol rehab facility located in the middle of town. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to overcome the drinking difficulties that had materialized in their lives, they in point of fact had the most revitalizing night's sleep they could think of in the last five months.
